Vega Riaza - Spain
Roble

Vega Riaza is made mainly from the grape variety Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo). This is Spain's principal red grape, used in many different regions. Tinta del Pais makes splendid, fruity young wines and lovely, spicy Crianzas as well as Reservas in Ribera del Duero.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: This wine has a deep ruby red with the silky violet sheen of youth.
Nose: Unexpectedly intense, with a marked note of toasty spices, liquorice and cloves, surrounded with ripe autumn fruits, blackberries and raspberries.
Palate: Well structured, finely intense with good extract and a light balancing acidity.
Vega Riaza Roble is a wine which will mature well in the bottle, where the oak taste will develop and the ageing time in the bottle will smooth the tannins. Best to drink in the next 2 or 3 years. Keep in cool, dark place at a constant temperature between 56° and 63°F.
Wine Making
Traditional maceration and pumping process. Two months in Bordeaux casks, 50% French, 50% American oak. 5,500 cases of six bottles produced.

85 points
"Spicy and rubbery on the nose, with a touch of heavy fruit providing the base. Shows ample cherry and berry flavors, but that fruit is a bit high-toned, meaning the back palate is mildly acidic and slightly sour. Needs food, with which it should fit the bill."
